Concrete Leveling Tools You Need to Have
Posted on 11th February 2016 by Ever Readymix Concrete
When laying a concrete floor across a large area, it can be a difficult process to ensure a perfectly straight and smooth surface. It’s important to ensure that you have the correct leveling tools for your project, whether it’s commercial or domestic, in order to get your concrete as level as possible.
We’ve listed some of the most important concrete leveling tools you need to make certain your concrete pour sets as smooth and straight as possible.
Levels
As the name suggests, a level is essential to ensuring the concrete surface is perfectly flat. In order for your concrete to lay completely level, the subbase must be perfectly straight, with no raised angles or uneven surfaces. A long-line level enables you to make sure that the surface is completely to specification before you pour your concrete, and also allows you to check the concrete itself once it has been poured.
Tape measures
A tape measure is a useful resource for confirming you have the accurate dimensions and depth dug out for your concrete surface. Measuring the slab depth before pouring your concrete will ensure it is of equal dimensions all over, ensuring your concrete is level when set.
Self levelling screeds
A screed works by scraping away any excess from the concrete surface, creating a smooth and level surface as it does. Screeds can be extremely useful for concrete surfaces that have already been poured and have set unevenly.
Trowels
Trowels are useful finishing tools to ensure the concrete is smooth once it has been poured. This tool can be used to level the surface, blend in surface colour, and it’s small size means it can be maneuvered into tight areas such as next to walls or in steps. These essential finishing steps do not require any high tech or expensive equipment – the simple trowel is a useful and practical tool for this part of the process.
Compactor
Compactors are useful for settling the subbase into position. If you are using a subbase such as stone or gravel for your concrete, it is important that this is pressed into place, with no loose stones that could cause the concrete to be uneven, or crack. A compactor will press the stones into tight formation, ensuring the subbase is prepped for you to pour your concrete.
