The Benefits of Concrete Mixer Trucks

Posted on 28th November 2018 by Ever Readymix Concrete

Where would we be without the concrete mixing truck? It’s an icon of the construction industry that has made the delivery of high volumes of concrete possible for decades now.

Over time it’s been changed only slightly and alongside volumetric mixers, offers the best concrete delivery option.

How a mixer truck works

A typical concrete truck, otherwise known as an in-transit mixer, can be loaded with dry materials and water, with the mixing occurring during transportation, or mixed concrete can be loaded into the mixing drum.

The drum turns while the truck is moving to keep the concrete agitated and therefore in a liquid state until it’s ready for delivery to the right location. Inside the drum is a multi-purpose blade.

The blade runs the internal length of the drum in a spiral shape. While turning into the base of the drum, the blade agitates and mixes the concrete. When the rotation of the drum is reversed in the other direction, towards the opening of the drum, the spiral acts as an archimedes screw.

Time

The time savings offered by concrete trucks means that any supplier worth their salt can offer same day and next day deliveries. This is an indispensible service when working a construction project to a tight deadline or when your original concrete supplier has let you down. Simply get in touch to discuss same day availability.

Capacity

At Ever Readymix, our trucks transport concrete from 0.5 cubic metres in volume to 8 cubic metres. This means we can make less trips and transport more concrete than ever. It’s very convenient and also requires less fuel, which helps reduce CO2 emissions.

Cost

The time you save with a concrete mixing truck loaded with readymix concrete is reflected in the labour costs and savings. Choosing not to mix onsite can save hours of work and your workforce will be happier, too for taking the less labour intensive option.

With an expert mixer and computerised batching plant on hand, you’ll also never have the wrong grade of concrete or accidentally mix the ingredients wrong yourself. Invest in doing it the right way the first time, and they’ll never have to be a second time.
